UndoTrail adds an agent called UndoTrail Assistant to Rovo. It appears on sites where Atlassian Rovo is available, alongside Rovo’s other agents.
What you can ask
The agent suggests three conversation starters:
- What changed on this work item in the last week?
- Who moved work items to Done this month?
- Which work items were deleted recently, and can they be restored?
Behind the agent are three actions. The agent picks the one that fits the question.
| Action | Answers questions like | What comes back |
|---|---|---|
| Get change history | “What changed on OPS-123?”, “Who moved anything to Done last week?” | The number of matching changes and work items, up to 25 individual changes (10 by default), and a link to the same report in UndoTrail |
| List deleted work items | “What was deleted in OPS recently?” | How many can still be restored and how many were already restored, counted separately; up to 25 captured deleted work items (those that can be restored first), each with its key, summary, project, deletion time and whether it has been restored; and a link to the Deleted items tab |
| Scan history for secrets and personal data | “Has anyone pasted an API key into Jira?” | The number of findings at or above a severity, up to 50 of them (20 by default) with values masked, the remediation guidance for each category found, and a link to the report |
What the agent understands
For change history, the agent can pass:
| Input | Examples |
|---|---|
| Projects | OPS, WEB |
| Work item keys | OPS-1, OPS-2 |
| JQL | Any extra JQL to narrow which work items are read |
| Fields | status, assignee |
| Transition | In Progress → Done, → Done, In Progress →, on any field |
| Changed by | Part of the person’s display name |
| Period | today, yesterday, this week, last week, this month, last month, last 7 days, last 30 days, last 90 days or last quarter. Anything else means the last 30 days |
| Search | Words that must appear in the change |
The scanner takes projects, JQL, a period and a minimum severity from 1 to 5. The default is 3; 4 or 5 limits it to credentials. See Security scanner for what each severity covers.
Permissions
- Change history and the scan read Jira as the person asking, so Jira’s own permissions decide what they cover. A work item you cannot see never appears in an answer.
- Deleted work items are listed only for projects the person asking can browse, and a secured one only when Jira confirms they are in its security level: the same checks the Deleted items tab uses. Jira administrators see every deleted item in the projects they can browse, secured ones included, as in the tab. When something at a security level was left out, the answer says so without naming it.
- Each action also follows the admin page’s feature permissions and needs an active subscription, exactly like the matching tab: History reports for change history, Security scanner for the scan and Deleted work items for the deleted list. When one is closed to the person asking, the action returns nothing and the agent says it is not available to them and why.
- The agent never restores anything. Restoring is done by a person, in the Deleted items tab. See Deleted items.
- Scanner values are always masked in the agent’s answers, and the agent is told never to ask for them unmasked. A chat transcript gets copied around, so a secret should never land in one.
Opening the full report
A history answer includes a link that opens UndoTrail’s explorer with the same query already filled in. From there you can filter it further, export it, or revert changes, exactly as with any other report. A scan answer links to the Security scanner tab with the same scope, and a deleted-items answer links to the Deleted items tab. The agent is told to give only the link an action returned, never one of its own.
Limitations
- The agent needs Atlassian Rovo on your site. Without Rovo, the rest of UndoTrail works as normal.
- A history answer reads at most 2,000 work items, and a scan at most 1,000. When a question matches more, the answer says so; narrow it, or open the full report.
- Periods are worked out in UTC, so “today” and “yesterday” follow UTC days rather than your own time zone.
- Changed by matches part of a display name, not an account ID.
- The deleted-items answer lists at most 25 work items.
- Answers are written by Rovo from the data the actions return, so the wording varies. The counts, keys and the report link come from the app.
- If an answer comes back without a report link (the app couldn’t work out your site’s address), open Apps → UndoTrail and build the report there.
